And I get a lot of people don’t like it - fair, I’m not going to try to make you like it. So yeah - that is why we got this season the way it is. Conflict drives narrative, and this is just how the writers write it. Their default setting for couples was break them up so they can get back together again. Let’s be real - the writers writing healthy relationships that got the focus of the screen time was not something they did very well. And look – I know all you fic writers can make that stuff interesting, but ultimately, that isn’t what the show was about, and I’ll be honest - I don’t think these writers would have written that very well. The writers weren’t interested in writing 13 episodes of Klaine wedding planning.(We can argue if it was a good story, but that was what they were going for.) The writers weren’t interested in writing a break up story – they wanted to write another story about how they got back together for good. This balances them out – Blaine broke it the first time, and now Kurt needs to learn that same lesson.Klaine follows a precedent started by Wemma and Finchel (sorry - I’m sure y’all hate it when I do that) - you shouldn’t marry an idea, you need to marry a person. The writers wanted the end of the season to end on the highest of high notes, so where do you start? Writing 101 says the bottom. The theme of Loser Like Me is about broken people, it’s evident in Rachel and Will’s stories (and maybe arguably about Sue?) and it’s there with Blaine and Kurt.Other than killing off Burt, what real reason would Kurt (or let’s be real Blaine) have of coming back other than hitting rock bottom and needing to start over? However, the real reason as to how it happened was most external factors, so, the reasons… You can give me pretty much anything, and I can figure out why it happened at this point. I’ve fan wanked it, meta’d it in last season and even wrote a fic to work out my headcanon as to how and why all of this went down. No - I don’t necessarily thing Klaine’s second breakup was built up, really, at all. It makes leaps and misses steps and lingers too long on steps and, yeah, there are a lot of times when logic isn’t going to work with this show. ![]() ![]() If I’ve learned one thing in doing all of this – it’s that Glee doesn’t tell its stories in a traditional structured way. So, in hindsight, it’s not really that surprising that everything comes back to Lima as almost a nod to the original 13 episodes. Here’s my thing about season 6 – I get that it’s not what a lot of people wanted, it’s not really what I wanted either, but the writers were always more comfortable telling their story about the ins and outs of a high school glee club than they were exploring the lives of young performers making it in the world. It’s time to hit the reset button again – but in a different way than season 4. But – that’s not before really kind of blowing everything up first. This strange little coda to the series, that not only kind of brings it back around to the start, but finishes off the series with a nice little bow. Ah, here we are – the final chapter of the story.
